Adapt Your Wardrobe for the Changing Seasons

As the seasons change, so does our wardrobe. Transitioning from summer to winter requires a thoughtful and organised approach to ensure your closet is ready. In this blog post, we'll guide you through a wardrobe makeover, helping you to avoid your wardrobe space from clogging up.

Assess what you need

Start off by taking out all your clothes and making two piles, one for summer and one for winter. Identify items that are strictly for summer such as tank tops, shorts, and swimwear. This is also a perfect way to donate or sell any clothes that you don’t wear anymore or may have grown out of, thus allowing you to free up even more space.

Keep clothes that can be layered

The changing seasons in the UK often come with unpredictable weather. Layering pieces of clothing that can easily adapt to varying temperatures is something you should consider. Versatile items like cardigans, lightweight sweaters, and stylish jackets can add warmth and enhance your overall style.

Footwear makeover

Store away sandals and lightweight trainers and keep your sturdy boots and closed shoes to withstand snow and ice. Shoes can take up a lot of space in a wardrobe, therefore storing them away can optimise space in your bedroom.

Storing your clothes

Whilst vacuum bags are very satisfying to watch, they may cause your clothes to become wrinkled in long term storage, so make sure your vacuum-packed items are suitable to iron.

We recommend washing and drying all your clothing before packing them away – after a few months of storage, unwashed items start to smell! Check your pockets are empty.

Keeping items made from wool and silk in a bin bag can damage them and make them lose shape over time. Therefore, using big bulky plastic containers is the best way to go. Choose plastic boxes that have an airtight lid so that your clothes will remain dry and free from mould.

Know which clothes need hanging or folding

To avoid damage and wrinkles in your clothes, it's best to know which clothes need to be hung or folded. Clothes such as blouses, shirts, dresses, and dress trousers are best to be hung up and they usually would need ironing. Investing in a clothes rail and some hanging garment bags is a great idea for items like these. Clothes such as leggings, jumpers, t-shirts, vests, and underwear can be easily folded and stored in boxes or suitcases.

Repurpose summer clothing

Don't be so quick to pack away your summer favourites. Many summer pieces can be repurposed for winter wear. For instance, a maxi dress can transform into a winter outfit when paired with tights, knee-high boots, and a jumper to go over the top. It is a perfect way to get creative with what you already have!

Transitioning from summer to winter clothing doesn't have to feel like a chore. With a focused approach to assessing, organising, and updating your wardrobe, you can effortlessly move through the seasons while staying stylish and comfortable. Embrace the opportunity to experiment with layering, making your wardrobe makeover an enjoyable and creative process.
