How To Safely Store Your Furniture

From short term storage while redecorating your home to long term storage after downsizing, you will need to know the best way to store your furniture to avoid damage.

First, you will need to work out what size storage unit to use. Our 36 sq. ft units are the perfect size for smaller household items up to the size of a single mattress, but for larger furniture items you will want to upsize. Give us a call and let one of our team members help you find the right size for your requirements.

To save space in your storage unit, disassemble all the furniture items you can. Make sure you keep the parts with any screws and bolts you took out, so you don’t have any mix ups later!

Make sure everything is properly cleaned. Vacuum clean any items like sofas which gather dirt and crumbs over time. Wipe everything down to prevent dust in your storage space. Make sure everything is dry before it goes into your unit.

Wrap everything up to protect it in storage. Cover items with dust sheets, and use bubble wrap to prevent dents or scratches. Take extra precautions with glass items like mirrors and glass tables – it’s better to use too much bubble wrap than too little!

When packing your self storage unit, store your largest, heaviest items towards the back of your unit against the walls. If you’re stacking boxes, make sure the heaviest are on the bottom, and lighter objects are on top. Label everything clearly and leave some room to move around your unit to find things in the future. If you know you will need an item soon, pack it close to the door.

Ensure that your storage unit is secure. You can bring your own padlock or buy one from us. Our site has 24/7 CCTV and is fully illuminated at night.

Finally, we recommend insuring your furniture items in case of unexpected damage. Our team can help arrange third party goods insurance – better safe than sorry!
